Lean Six Sigma
Overview
Six Sigma is the process improvement framework or methodology developed by Motorola back in 1984. It is a very useful merger of many different tools and techniques, utilizing an improvement cycle called DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control). Since the original Six Sigma concentrates on establishing high quality processes, companies soon realised, that the DMAIC cycle offers even more potential. And so a very natural integration of Lean phylosophy and Six Sigma approaches resulted into Lean Six Sigma.
For more than 20 years, Lean Six Sigma projects and training conducted by FBE guarantee measurable results and significant pay-off for clients. Over the time we delivered projects in many different companies, institutions, and organizations, improving the processes in discrete, continuous, or transactional poduction, in services, in finance, in ICT, or in healthcare.
The DMAIC cycle as used for the Lean Six Sigma improvement projects:
Training Courses of Lean Six Sigma
Awareness for Lean Six Sigma
It all usually begins with the training for Managers, Sponsors and Champions. This training takes two days and contains procedures for selecting improvement projects and measuring their performance. it provides an overview of the Lean Six Sigma methodology for project managers, champions, sponsors, and all relevant decission makers.
The other awareness training is only needed, once your comapny already has a structure of Green Belts, Black Belts and Sponsors. Once you have all of these, you might realise, that it was helpfull, if your Lean Six Sigma project members would have some fundamental know-how on the methodology. This is usually fullfilled by a training of Yellow Belts (two days) or White Belts (one day).
Lean Six Sigma Expert Training
Green Belts are the first level experts in Lean Six Sigma, who are capable to lead and manage some smaller improvement projects. Their training takes 10 days, plus work on own improvement project. The project demonstrates the ablity of Green Belt to successfully apply the Lean Six Sigma methods. The training schedule of GB:
Black Belts are the higher level experts in Lean Six Sigma, who are capable to lead and manage big improvement projects. After successfully finishing the Green Belt program, their further training takes 8 days with Trainer, supplemented by 2 days of self-study according to instruction. Once again, all the Black Belt candidates have to demonstrate the ablity of applying more advanced Lean Six Sigma methods in a form of project completition. The training schedule of BB:
Master Black Belts are the highest experts in the Lean Six Sigma hierarchy. Their main task is to provide the strategy for improvement in the company and to support Green and Black Belts in their projects. After reaching the BB status, the further training towards MBB requires another 10 days, plus delivering a project on a strategic level. Typically Master Black Belt is a very experianced and well respected pearson with strategical thinking. But it is a very rare position, too. That is because companies typicaly need to have own Master Black Belt with an aproximate ration 1 MBB per 3000 employees. Other way round, many companies tend to have one MBB for more plants or they relly on external support (for example from FBE Master Black Belts).
Note: The training is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
Support of implementation, coaching and software
Support trough your jurney
FBE provides a full range of services which never ends with the training. We are more than committed to you success and therefor, chosing FBE as a partenr for Lean Six Sigma means, that you can rely on our experianced Master Black Belts. The coaching on improvement projects will show you a clear path on the way to a successfull implementation.
But implementation of improvement projects with the DMAIC cycle led by FBE is chosen by several companies as a regular service. In such case, our experts will help you to achieve your improvement goals directly as project leaders.
Software for Lean Six Sigma
As the whole Six Sigma is strongly based on hard numbers, the use of a statistical software is necessary. For these reasons, you can feel free to use your own statistical software. Our experts should be capable to help you with many different SW packages. However, the mostly used software for process improvement related statistics is Minitab. And FBE is the partner of Minitab, so we can provide you the training in this software as well.
But if you prefere rather the to stay with your well known MS Excel, than we have another option for you. Since more than 22 years, we provide our clients with our own statistical macro for MS Excel, that will help you to conduct any Lean Six Sigma projects. You will by capable to apply the following tools with software support:
- Project plan
- SIPOC — process description
- Critical customer requirements (CCR)
- X-Y goals matrix
- Process mapping and KPI
- Value stream analysis
- Graphical statistical tools
- R&R – MSA — Measurement systems analysis
- t-test ANOVA (Analysis of variance)
- Calculate process capability / Sigma of the process
- SPC regulation diagrams
- Box Plot
- Correlation and multi-variation analysis
- Process cycle time analysis. Lean tools
- FMEA, DOE (Design of Experiments)
- Force field analysis. Decision matrix
