An article about the successful introduction of quality – efficiency – productivity into the corporate culture at Marel Slovakia
When you say quality, efficiency, and productivity – three important and sometimes interchangeable words, but what do they all mean and what is behind them? We already know!
Lecturers from FBE explained the basics of standardization, visualization, PokaYoke, basic FMEA, PDCA quality improvement cycle – Kaizen, 5S, pull principle (“pull by the customer”), 9 types of waste, and others. In the training, we understood that being productive is not the same as being efficient and it is not the same at all. We also began to understand how inventory in production affects our bottom line and profit, and how quality, or rather poor quality, reduces efficiency metrics, productivity, and ultimately our profit.
During the training, we went through three simulations of the production process and were able to immediately verify what we heard in the production process. The first round was dedicated to the issue of poor production quality, its causes, and how to address them.
We applied our conclusions from the simulation and the subsequent analysis of the causes in the second round, where we all managed to eliminate a large part of the poor quality of our production and immediately saw how our progress in quality has an impact on the other indicators. Before the third round, we explained the principles of efficiency and productivity and we tried right away in practice how using the theory we heard changes the production process and how it affects the economic result of our company.
